What annual oil furnace maintenance includes.

Oil furnaces require more annual service than gas furnaces. The combustion process is dirtier, the fuel can degrade or absorb water, and the equipment needs more attention each season to run safely and efficiently.

Most Common

Hot Water Boiler

Heats water in a closed loop, distributes heat through radiators or baseboard. Gas or oil-fired. Very common in Rochester's older housing stock. Quiet, comfortable heat.

Older Homes

Steam Boiler

Heats water to steam, distributes through one or two-pipe radiator systems. Still common in pre-1950s Rochester housing. We service and replace steam boilers across Monroe, Wayne, and Ontario Counties.

Efficiency Option

Combi Boiler

Handles space heating AND domestic hot water in one unit. No separate water heater needed. High-efficiency option for Rochester homeowners looking to consolidate systems.

Furnace maintenance in Rochester NY: what it covers and why Rochester furnaces need it every year.

AmeriHeat provides furnace maintenance for gas and oil furnaces across Rochester NY and the surrounding Monroe, Wayne, and Ontario County area. Rochester puts more hours on a furnace than most of the country. A furnace here runs from October through April, sometimes longer. Annual maintenance is not optional in a climate like this. What a gas furnace tune-up covers in Rochester

A complete gas furnace tune-up from AmeriHeat covers every major system component. Not a filter swap and a quick look: a real inspection and cleaning that gives you an honest picture of what your system is doing heading into winter.

Heat exchanger inspection: Primary and secondary heat exchangers inspected for cracks, holes, and blockage. A cracked heat exchanger allows combustion gases into your home's air supply. A plugged secondary HX (like the Macedon call documented in our recent jobs) causes the unit to trip on high limit and eventually fail completely. This is the most critical safety check on a gas furnace.
Flame sensor cleaning: Dirty flame sensors cause intermittent lockout: the furnace lights, then shuts off after a few seconds. We clean the flame sensor on every tune-up and replace it if it shows cracks (like the Farmington no-heat call we have on file).
Burner inspection and cleaning: Burner ports get coated with debris over time. Uneven flame pattern reduces efficiency and heat output. Burners cleaned and checked for proper flame color and pattern.
Ignitor check: Hot surface ignitors are the most common single-point failure on a gas furnace. We inspect and note condition. A failing ignitor is caught here before it causes a no-heat call at midnight in January.
Flue and venting: Flue pipe inspected for proper pitch, connections, and signs of blockage. Pressure switch hoses checked. Inducer motor operation verified.
Filter replacement: We replace or clean the filter during every tune-up. Rochester's humidity from Lake Ontario means filters load up faster here than in drier climates. A clogged filter is behind most frozen coil and high limit calls we get.
Electrical connections: Control board connections, wiring, and capacitors inspected. Loose connections are a common source of intermittent furnace problems.
Gas pressure check: Manifold gas pressure verified against manufacturer specifications.
Thermostat calibration: Thermostat operation and calibration checked. Setpoint verified against actual output.

Oil furnace maintenance in Rochester NY

Oil furnace maintenance is more involved than gas because the combustion chamber accumulates soot and the oil delivery system has wear components that need annual replacement. The annual oil furnace service visit includes:

Combustion chamber cleaning: Soot and carbon buildup in the combustion chamber reduces heat transfer efficiency and can cause smoke. Cleaned thoroughly on every visit.
Nozzle replacement: Oil nozzles wear and clog. Replaced every year regardless of condition: a worn nozzle changes the spray pattern and combustion quality.
Oil filter replacement: Canister oil filter replaced. A clogged oil filter starves the burner and causes lockout.
Pump strainer cleaning: Oil pump strainer cleaned to prevent fuel delivery restrictions.
Combustion analysis: Draft checked, CO and smoke number measured, efficiency calculated. Burner adjusted for proper combustion.
Electrodes and igniter: Electrode gap set to specification. Igniter transformer output checked.
Oil tank and lines: Visual inspection of tank condition and supply lines. Water in the tank is a common issue in older steel tanks and causes burner lockout.

Recent furnace maintenance and service finds across Rochester NY.

Every photo is from a real AmeriHeat job. These are the kinds of problems annual maintenance catches before they become emergencies.

Before: Oil Furnace Cleaning

Combustion Chamber Before Service

Oil furnace combustion chamber before annual cleaning. Soot and carbon buildup reduces heat transfer and combustion efficiency. This is what an overdue oil furnace cleaning looks like before the service visit.

After: Same Furnace

Combustion Chamber After Service

Same combustion chamber after cleaning. Carbon removed, heat exchanger surfaces clear, combustion efficiency restored. Before and after from the same service visit.

Deferred Maintenance Find

Completely Plugged Filter

Plugged furnace filter found during a no-cool call in Macedon. The filter was so blocked it froze the AC coil over and shut down the system. Annual maintenance would have caught and replaced this before it caused a service call.

Direct answers to what Rochester homeowners ask before scheduling a furnace tune-up.

Does AmeriHeat service boilers in Rochester NY?+

Yes. AmeriHeat services gas boilers, oil boilers, and steam boiler systems across Rochester NY and Monroe, Wayne, and Ontario Counties. Annual maintenance, repairs, no-heat emergency calls, and boiler replacement. Call 585 454 8422. Justin or Colby answers the phone.

How often should a boiler be serviced in Rochester NY?+

Once a year, ideally before the heating season starts in fall. Annual boiler maintenance catches the problems that cause no-heat calls in January and February: pressure relief valve failure, waterlogged expansion tanks, clogged pump screens, and dirty burners. We see the same set of problems every winter on boilers that skipped annual service.

Do you service steam boilers in Rochester NY?+

Yes. Steam boilers require specialized knowledge that many newer HVAC companies do not have. AmeriHeat services steam radiator systems across Rochester, including low water cutoff cleaning, steam trap inspection, air vent checks, and boiler water quality. We have replaced and maintained steam boilers in Monroe, Wayne, and Ontario Counties.

Do you service oil boilers in Rochester NY?+

Yes. Oil boiler maintenance is a regular part of what we do. The annual oil boiler service visit includes burner service and nozzle replacement, oil filter change, pump strainer cleaning, combustion analysis, and a full system inspection. Most Rochester area HVAC companies have stopped servicing oil equipment. AmeriHeat has not.

What boiler brands do you service in Rochester NY?+

We service all major boiler brands: Weil-McLain, Burnham, Laars, Peerless, Crown, Slant/Fin, Triangle Tube, and others. For oil boilers we service all burner brands including Beckett, Riello, and Carlin. We are an authorized Heil dealer and install Weil-McLain boilers for replacements.

Is AmeriHeat owner operated?+

Yes. Justin VanCassele and Colby Baker own and run AmeriHeat. When you call 585 454 8422, Justin or Colby answers directly. Both personally handle boiler maintenance and repair calls in Rochester and the surrounding area.
