Rochester homeowners call us when their oil furnace is past its useful life and they need a straight answer on whether to replace it or convert to gas.

AmeriHeat is not a franchise. We are a Rochester NY based, truck-based, owner operated HVAC company. Justin or Colby answers the phone. No call centers, no rotating techs, no salesmen booking your service call.

Most furnace installation calls start with a system that is either past 20 years old, failed at a critical time, or simply not worth repairing. We give you the cost to install a properly sized replacement, explain what efficiency makes sense for your home, and schedule the work. Most standard gas furnace replacements complete in one day.

We service every system type. Gas furnaces, oil furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, central AC, and ductless mini splits. You get the price before any work begins. No surprises. No upsells in the driveway.

Oil furnace installation in Rochester NY: replacement vs conversion, what to expect, and who still does this work.

AmeriHeat installs oil furnaces and handles oil-to-gas conversions across Rochester NY and the surrounding Monroe, Wayne, and Ontario County area. We install Thermo-Pride oil furnaces for replacement and Heil and Rheem for oil-to-gas conversions. One of the few HVAC companies in the Rochester area still actively doing oil furnace installation and replacement work. Free estimates. Justin or Colby answers the phone at 585 454 8422.

Oil furnace replacement vs oil-to-gas conversion: the honest discussion

When an oil furnace reaches end of life, Rochester homeowners face a choice most HVAC companies avoid: replace the oil furnace or convert to natural gas. We give you both options honestly:

Replace with a new oil furnace (Thermo-Pride): Lower upfront cost. No gas line work, no tank decommission, no permit complexity beyond the furnace itself. Makes sense when natural gas is not available at the property, when the oil tank is in good condition, or when the conversion payback period is too long for your situation.
Convert to natural gas: Higher upfront cost that includes a new gas furnace (Heil or Rheem), gas line extension from the street to the home, oil tank decommission or removal, and any venting changes. Makes sense when natural gas is available at the property and you want to eliminate oil delivery dependency and take advantage of lower natural gas prices.
The honest payback calculation: We calculate the payback period for conversion at the free estimate. The conversion cost, the difference in annual fuel cost between oil and gas, and the estimated payback in years. We do not pressure toward conversion if the numbers do not support it.

What oil furnace installation involves in Rochester NY

A standard oil furnace replacement in a Rochester home typically completes in one day. The process:

Free estimate and assessment: We visit the home, inspect the existing system including the oil tank, and give you a complete picture of the replacement or conversion cost. Oil tank condition affects the scope of work.
Oil tank inspection: The existing oil tank is inspected for age and condition. Older steel tanks that are corroding or have failed bottom seams may need replacement or decommission regardless of whether you stay on oil or convert to gas.
Furnace removal and installation: Old oil furnace disconnected and removed. New Thermo-Pride oil furnace installed, connected to the existing oil supply line, chimney flue connected and inspected. All connections pressure-tested before commissioning.
Combustion analysis: New oil furnace commissioned with a combustion analyzer. Combustion efficiency, CO output, and draft all verified before we leave.
Venting: Oil furnaces use a chimney flue, not PVC venting. The existing chimney is inspected and cleaned as part of a new oil furnace installation.

Rochester area oil heat geography

Oil heat is more common in specific areas of the Rochester market. Understanding where oil heat is concentrated helps homeowners know what to expect:

Wayne County: Palmyra, Marion, Macedon, Ontario, and Williamson have high rates of older oil-heat homes. Natural gas availability varies by street. Some Wayne County addresses have gas at the meter, others do not. We check gas availability at the free estimate.
Ontario County: Rural areas around Canandaigua, Bloomfield, and Bristol have significant oil heat concentrations. Oil furnace replacement is the only realistic option for homes without natural gas service.
Monroe County rural areas: Homes in the eastern Monroe County suburbs (Penfield, Fairport, Pittsford fringe areas) that predate natural gas infrastructure expansion sometimes have oil heat that their neighbors do not.

Oil furnace brands we install and why most companies stopped

We install Thermo-Pride oil furnaces for oil furnace replacement. Thermo-Pride is a quality oil furnace manufacturer with strong parts availability. For oil-to-gas conversions we install Heil (authorized dealer) and Rheem gas furnaces as part of the conversion package. Most Rochester HVAC companies have stopped installing oil furnaces: the market has shrunk as gas conversion has increased, and oil furnace knowledge requires specific training and parts stocking. AmeriHeat has continued to do this work. For oil furnace repair rather than installation, see our oil furnace repair page. For gas furnace installation see our furnace installation page. Call 585 454 8422 or fill out the contact form and Justin or Colby will get back to you directly.

Oil furnace installation FAQ for Rochester NY homeowners.

Direct answers to what Rochester homeowners ask before scheduling an oil furnace replacement estimate.

Does AmeriHeat install oil furnaces in Rochester NY?+

Yes. AmeriHeat installs oil furnaces and handles oil-to-gas conversions across Rochester NY and Monroe, Wayne, and Ontario Counties. We install Thermo-Pride oil furnaces for replacement and Heil or Rheem gas furnaces for oil-to-gas conversions. One of the few HVAC companies in the Rochester area still actively doing this work. Free estimates. Call 585 454 8422. Justin or Colby answers the phone.

Should I replace my oil furnace or convert to gas?+

It depends on whether natural gas is available at your property and whether the payback period on conversion makes sense for your situation. We give you both numbers at the free estimate: cost of oil furnace replacement and cost of complete oil-to-gas conversion including gas line, new gas furnace, and oil tank decommission. We calculate the payback in years and let you decide. We do not pressure toward the more expensive option.

How long does oil furnace installation take?+

Most oil furnace replacements complete in one day. Old furnace disconnected and removed, new Thermo-Pride oil furnace installed, oil supply line connected, chimney flue inspected and connected, combustion analysis run, system commissioned and tested. Oil-to-gas conversions may require two to three days depending on gas line work and permitting.

What oil furnace brand do you install?+

We install Thermo-Pride oil furnaces for oil furnace replacement. For oil-to-gas conversions we install Heil (authorized dealer) and Rheem gas furnaces as the new heating system.

Do you handle oil tank removal or decommission?+

Yes. Oil tank decommission is part of an oil-to-gas conversion project. We coordinate the oil tank decommission as part of the full conversion scope. For above-ground tanks, decommission involves draining the tank, cleaning, removing oil and sludge, and rendering the tank inoperable. Underground tanks have additional requirements. We discuss tank scope at the free estimate.

Is AmeriHeat owner operated?+

Yes. Justin VanCassele and Colby Baker own and run AmeriHeat. When you call 585 454 8422, Justin or Colby answers directly. Both personally handle oil furnace installation and oil-to-gas conversion projects across Rochester and the surrounding area.
