Cracking skin, static shocks off every doorknob, gaps opening in the hardwood. Finger Lakes winter air is dry and running heat all season makes it worse. A whole home humidifier fixes it properly. But what decides the job is what you heat with, and in Canandaigua that is not always forced air. We check before we quote.
No heat in winter, no cool in a heat wave, busted lines. We answer the phone day or night, weekends included.
Read any humidifier page around Rochester and you get the same list. Dry skin, static, wood furniture. All true, none of it answers the question that decides your job. A standard humidifier mounts to your ductwork and needs a forced air furnace to move the moisture. If you heat with a boiler and radiators, and plenty of older Canandaigua homes do, that type will do very little.
That matters more here than in a newer subdivision. Canandaigua has been a village since 1815 and the housing through town runs old. We check what you have before quoting, because a bypass humidifier on a house with no ductwork is not a small mistake. There are proper ways to humidify a boiler heated home, and we walk you through them.

Three real options. We tell you which your home can actually take instead of quoting whatever is easiest to install.
Mounts onto the ductwork at your furnace. Water runs over an evaporator panel, the furnace pushes warm dry air through it, and moisture goes out to the whole house. The most common setup, and the most cost effective, but it needs ducts and a forced air furnace to work.
Makes its own steam instead of relying on furnace heat, so it works without the furnace running. In a home with no ductwork it pairs with a wall mounted fan pack that pushes the steam straight into the room. That is what makes it the real answer for radiant and boiler heated homes, and for larger draftier houses where a bypass unit cannot keep up.
If the problem is really one bedroom and not the whole house, a portable unit may be all you need, and we will say so rather than sell a whole home system to fix one dry room.
A humidifier costs far less to install while the furnace is already open. If you are replacing your heating system anyway, ask about combining them.
This one is for full system installations, not a humidifier on its own. If you are putting in a complete new heating system in your Canandaigua home, take $2000 off and we can add the humidifier at the same time.

Cold air holds very little moisture. Pull it inside, heat it to seventy degrees, and the relative humidity drops through the floor. In a Finger Lakes winter it is common for indoor air to sit down around fifteen or twenty percent. That is where the static shocks, the cracked lips, and the sinus trouble come from.
It is not only about comfort. Hardwood floors, trim, doors, and furniture all give up moisture to dry air and shrink. That is what opens gaps between floorboards over a winter and makes doors stick and then swing loose. In an older Canandaigua home with original woodwork, holding steady humidity is protecting something you cannot easily replace.
In an older house the bigger driver is not the outdoor temperature, it is air leakage. Every bit of cold dry air pulled in around old windows, doors, and the rim joist replaces humid indoor air, so a leaky house fights the humidifier all winter. A properly sized unit still handles it, but it is worth knowing why a small humidifier in a drafty hundred year old home never seems to move the number.
Thirty to fifty percent relative humidity through winter is the target. Below thirty you get the dryness problems. Push it too high in a cold climate and the moisture finds the coldest surface in the house and condenses there. In an older home with aging windows that means water running down the glass and eventually mould on the sills. We set the control properly and show you how to adjust it when it gets very cold out.
On a forced air home it is straightforward. We mount the unit on the supply or return duct, tap a water line, run a drain, and wire the control and outdoor sensor. Most are done in a few hours. A steam unit takes longer and needs more electrical. Either way we explain the maintenance side, because a humidifier with a clogged panel or a scaled up water line quietly stops working, and most people never get told that.
