No heat in winter, no cool in a heat wave, busted lines. We answer the phone day or night, weekends included.
Canandaigua is a strange spot for this question. The city sits at the north end of the lake and is compact, so most streets in town have a gas main running past them. Head into the Town of Canandaigua or the rural stretches of Ontario County and that changes fast. With no main near your property, converting means paying to extend one, and depending on the distance that can cost more than the heating system itself.
There is a second wrinkle people run into. Canandaigua sits near the boundary between two utility service territories, so some addresses in the area are billed by RG&E and others by NYSEG. That affects who you deal with for the gas hookup. We have done this in both, so we can point you at the right one instead of leaving you to figure it out.
Justin VanCassele and Colby Baker run AmeriHeat together. Colby is a veteran. Both owners are on jobs every week across Rochester and Monroe, Wayne and Ontario Counties.
Give them a call. They actually pick up.
Which one fits depends on your street, your current system, and how long you plan to stay. We go through all three at the estimate.
The tank comes out, the gas line comes in, and we install a new gas furnace or boiler. No more deliveries, no more tank, no more watching oil prices in January. We install Heil, with Rheem as a higher end option. This is the right move when the main is already close.
If there is no main near you, extending one is usually not worth it. A modern oil system runs far better than one from the eighties or nineties, and we still service oil when a lot of shops around here dropped it. Sometimes this is simply the smarter money.
A heat pump heats and cools from one system and does not need a gas main at all, which matters on the rural side. New York runs incentive programs for qualifying heat pump installs. The rules change, so we will tell you honestly where things stand rather than promise a number.

People picture this as a bigger job than it usually is. If the main is already at your street, the utility brings a service line to the house and sets a meter. We handle the equipment side: removing the old oil furnace or boiler, installing the new gas unit, running the gas piping, and doing the venting. Most conversions are done in a day, sometimes two if there is chimney work.
The oil tank is its own decision. Once the conversion is done, that tank is no longer doing anything. An indoor tank can be drained and removed. An underground tank is a different situation and needs to be handled properly, because a leaking buried tank becomes an environmental and resale problem. We will walk you through what your setup needs rather than leaving it for you to sort out later.
It depends on three things. How close the main is, how old your system is, and how long you plan to stay. If your oil furnace is near the end and there is a main at the street, you were going to spend money on heating equipment anyway, so converting at the same time makes sense. If your system has years left and the nearest main is a long run away, the math often does not work, and we will say so.
A lot of Rochester and Finger Lakes companies stopped servicing oil years ago, so when you call them about an oil system the only answer available is to get off oil. We never stopped. We repair and maintain oil systems across Ontario County, so we have no reason to push a conversion that does not help you.
